vCenter Server missing from VCF Operations license assignment after redeployment of VCF Operations and License Manager Appliances

Issue/Introduction

• Navigate to VCF Operations > Manage > Licensing > Licenses & Registration > vCenter Systems: the target vCenter are missing from the inventory
  
  
• Inspection of the vCenter UI > Administration > Licensing reveals the presence of expired and unsubscribed licenses (e.g., previous VCF Operations and VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA)

Environment

VCF 9.1

Cause

• The presence of stale, expired, or unsubscribed licenses residing within the vCenter Server LDAP database disrupts the license synchronization process between vCenter and VCF Operations.
  
  
• VCF Operations polls the vCenter Server licensing service to populate its registration list. The invalid licensing data within the SSO LDAP directory prevents Operations from successfully interrogating and displaying the workload vCenter instance.

 

Resolution

1. Take a snapshot of the vCenter
   
   
2. SSH to vCenter as the root user
   
   
3. Manually remove the impacted licenses with step provided in the KB How to remove a License Manually from vCenter using ldapmodify
   
   
4. Restart the License Server
