Issue/Introduction

  • A group created with rules combining a Device selector and a sub-rule for Interfaces returns the expected members in Group Management.
  • Applying this group to a dashboard or filtering by Inventory | Devices works as expected.
  • Applying the same group to Inventory | Interfaces results in "No Data" or has no selection effect, as if the filter is not applied.

Cause

The issue is due to the group's "Add items of type" configuration.

When a group is configured with "Add items of type: Device" and a sub-rule for interfaces (with "Include Children" off), the group contains devices and ports. However, the DX NetOps Inventory | Interfaces view only displays items that are primary members of the selected group. If the interfaces are only present as children of the device members, they are not registered as primary members for the interface-specific inventory filter.

Resolution

To make the group effective for Interface Inventory and Dashboards, the group must be configured to add Interfaces as primary members while maintaining the device scope.

  1. Log in to the DX NetOps Portal.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Groups.
  3. Locate and Edit the problematic group.
  4. In the Rule definition, locate the "Add items of type" dropdown.
  5. Change the selection from Device to Interface.
  6. Ensure your conditions still include the Device Name (or other device identifiers) to maintain the correct scope, followed by your interface-specific sub-rules.
  7. Save the group.
  8. Allow up to one minute for the group synchronization cycle to complete.

Note: If the group depends on another user-created group, it may take multiple sync cycles (up to 1 minute per cycle) to align membership, as there is no specific order for group run rules.

Additional Information

'Include the children of managed items' option will affect the results on the dashboard.
