Issue/Introduction

Upgrading to Log Management version 9.1 involves a side-by-side deployment where custom content is not automatically migrated. This results in custom alert definitions appearing missing in the new user interface when navigating to Operate > Administration > Configurations > Alert Definitions.

Environment

  • VCF Operations 9.1
  • Log Management 9.1
  • VCF Operations for Logs 9.0.x

Cause

Designed behavior. See the post-upgrade actions defined in Upgrade to Log Management 9.1

Custom content (dashboards, queries, alerts) is not transferred automatically. Create a Content Pack for your custom content, use the conversion tool to generate a Management Pack, and install it into VCF Operations.

Resolution

Step 1: Group Alerts into a Custom Content Pack

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations for Logs user interface.
  2. Navigate to Alerts > Alert Definitions.
  3. Select the check boxes for the alerts you wish to convert.
  4. Click the Add to Content Pack (or Copy to Content Pack) button.
  5. In the dialog, select an existing custom content pack or create a new one (e.g., "My Custom Alerts").
  6. Once the alerts are added, navigate to Content Packs in the left sidebar.
  7. Locate your custom content pack, click the three dots (meatball menu) or Export icon, and select Export as Content Pack.
  8. Save the resulting .vlcp file to your local machine.

Step 2: Convert the Content Pack to a Management Pack and Install it

  1. Convert the content pack to a management pack - Converting Content Packs to Management Packs
