Issue/Introduction

When cloning a Virtual Machine (VM) to a VM template within a Content Library, the Per-VM Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) configuration is stripped or lost.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

By default, the operation to clone a Virtual Machine to a Content Library template does not capture advanced or extra configurations, which includes the Per-VM EVC attribute.

Resolution

To ensure the Per-VM EVC configuration is retained during the cloning process, perform the following steps:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.

  2. Navigate to the inventory and locate the target Virtual Machine.

  3. Right-click the Virtual Machine and select Clone > Clone as Template to Library.

  4. In the Clone to Template wizard, explicitly select the checkbox for Include extra configuration.

  5. Complete the remaining steps in the wizard to finalize the deployment.

  6. Deploy a test Virtual Machine from the newly created template to verify that the Per-VM EVC settings have been successfully preserved.
