Issue/Introduction

Broadcom API Gateway Virtual Appliance (OVA) is currently supported to be deployed on ESXi/vSphere hypervisor only.

  • Is it possible to migrate and/or deploy OVA over Amazon EC2?
  • Will Broadcom support this type of deployment?

Environment

API Gateway Appliance

Cause

Regarding the deployment of the Gateway Appliance, please be advised that while it is technically possible to import an Open Virtual Appliance (OVA) into Amazon EC2, doing so presents significant compatibility risks. These include, but are not limited to:

  1. Missing AWS-specific drivers (ENA/NVMe) required for optimized performance.
  2. Networking configuration conflicts within the VPC environment.
  3. Kernel incompatibilities between the virtualized appliance and the EC2 hypervisor.

As this specific configuration has not undergone official validation, we do not provide technical support for Gateway Appliance OVAs deployed on EC2 instances.

Resolution

Recommendation: To ensure a stable and supported environment, customers intending to migrate to EC2 should utilize the Software Gateway form factor.
