Issue/Introduction

This KB will serve as guidance on how VCF Operations (formerly Aria Operations) appliances are backed up for disaster recovery purposes

Environment

• Product: VCF Operations / VMware Aria Operations
• Version: 8.x 
• Backup Scenario: Environments without an existing 3rd-party backup appliance (e.g., Veeam, NetBackup, Avamar).

Cause

VCF Operations does not provide a native, built-in file-based backup mechanism for the entire appliance suite. 

Additionally, legacy documentation may still reference vSphere Data Protection (VDP), which is End of Life (EOL) and no longer supported.

Resolution

A third party file-based backup tool must be utilized to back up the appliances. 

 

Additional Information

Do not attempt to use vSphere Data Protection (VDP). While it may appear in legacy versions of documentation, (see page 159) the product is EOL and cannot be used for modern VCF Operations deployments.
