UpLogix or other "Pingable" (ICMP-only) devices are being discovered with the device IP address rather then the hostname
DX NetOps Spectrum any version
For devices modeled as "Pingable," Spectrum cannot query the `sysName` attribute via SNMP. The application relies on DNS resolution and specific VNM configuration settings to determine the model name. If the configuration is set to prioritize short names or if FQDN resolution is disabled, the model name may default to the IP address
To ensure Spectrum correctly populates the hostname using DNS, you must enable the fully qualified hostname setting within the SpectroSERVER configuration.
1. Open the **OneClick** console.
2. Locate and select the **VNM** model for your SpectroSERVER in the **Navigation** panel.
3. In the **Component Detail** panel, expand the **Information** tab.
4. Locate and expand the **SpectroSERVER Control** subview.
5. Find the setting labeled **Use Fully Qualified Host Name**.
6. Change the value from **No** to **Yes**.
7. To apply the change to existing models, you must delete the affected pingable devices and rediscover them using the **Discovery Console**.
**Note:** You can verify OS-level resolution by running `nslookup ####` (where #### is the device IP) from the SpectroSERVER command line. If the IP resolves to a name like `####.net.####.com`, the setting above ensures Spectrum captures the full string.
