Issue/Introduction

Receiving message CA-7.947 - ERROR READING CHECKPOINT ID RECORD during CA7 Release 12.0/12.1 startup.

Environment

Release:
Component: 7

Resolution

The message CA-7.947 - ERROR READING CHECKPOINT ID RECORD is referencing the Checkpoint file which is pointed by the UCC7CKPT ddname.

Basically, this message means that CA 7 can't find the correct addresses for the checkpoint & queue files SCRQ and DQTQ.

As in our Best Practice Guide, we require that the queue files and the checkpoint file must reside on the same device type when not using VIO for SCRQ and DQTQ.

If this checkpoint file (UCC7CKPT) is new, a Start TYPE=CKPT should be performed the first time.

When something is changed (copied/new allocated..) into the checkpoint file, it is OK to start the first time with TYPE=CKPT.

The TYPE=CKPT is the same as TYPE=ERST but in addition :

The checkpoint file re-initialization causes the following actions:

  • The CA7 job number starts over at the lowest available number.
  • The schedule scan processing options are reestablished. Scanning can be initiated at the option of the user.
  • The product starts logging to the primary log. Any data that was in either the primary or secondary log file is overwritten without being written to the history file. If you want to save the log data, execute the /SWAP to dump the log before doing the CKPT start.

As general description, the Checkpoint data set records checkpoints for restart purposes and it must reside on the same device type as the queues (remained in r12.0/r12.1).
