VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations for Networks 9.x, the user interface may continue to display an Evaluation Mode banner warning even after a valid vCenter 9.0 instance with the correct license SKU has been added as a data source.

Environment

VCF Operations for Networks 9.0

Cause

VCF Operations for Networks 9.0 licensing is additive and dependent on the status of all connected vCenter data sources. The banner remains active if:

  1. One or more connected vCenter instances are unreachable or offline.
  2. A legacy vCenter (e.g., version 8.x) is still registered but does not meet the 9.0 licensing requirements.
  3. A connected vCenter is running on an expired evaluation license.

In this specific case, a stale/legacy vCenter registration was unreachable, causing the appliance to remain in evaluation mode despite the presence of a properly licensed vCenter 9.0 instance.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, remove any stale, unreachable, or non-compliant vCenter data sources from the appliance:

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations for Networks GUI.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Data Sources.
  3. Review the list of connected vCenter Servers. Look for any instances showing a status of "Failed," "Unreachable," or those known to be decommissioned.
  4. Select the stale vCenter data source and click the Delete icon to remove it.
  5. Ensure at least one (1) remaining vCenter data source is running version 9.0 and has a valid VCF 9.0 license SKU applied.
  6. Refresh the browser. The Evaluation Mode banner should clear once only compliant and reachable data sources remain.
