Issue/Introduction

When removing a retired FQDN object from a Ping Adapter instance, the removal appears successful initially. However, during subsequent collection cycles, the deleted objects automatically re-appear in the inventory.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18

Cause

The integration continues to retain the FQDN reference within the active configuration file located under the adapter instance settings, forcing the collection engine to re-discover and recreate the object.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to Inventory > Ping > FQDN and delete the retired objects.
  2. Navigate to Operations > Configurations > Configuration files > Management Packs Configuration
  3. Locate and edit the configuration file corresponding to the Ping Adapter to remove the FQDN entries for the retired servers.
  4. Go to Administration -> Integrations.
  5. Click on the ellipses next to the affected Ping Adapter Instance and select Stop collecting.
  6. Once the collection status updates to stopped, click the ellipses again and select Start collecting.
  7. Monitor the inventory to verify the objects do not re-discover.
