Issue/Introduction

  • Tenant reports in Aria Operations show incorrect or missing data (blank or 0) for snapshot storage utilization.
  • The datastore details for virtual machines are not visible when logged into the vCenter Server with the user account assigned to the Aria Operations VMware adapter.
  • The following error signature appears in the /storage/vcops/log/adapters/VMwareAdapter/VMwareAdapter.log file:
adapter.vmware.dataobject.LWVirtualMachine.getStorageStatsPerDatastore - Expecting datastore for VM vm-##, but can't find datastore in object cache

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

The user account configured for the vCenter Server adapter instance lacks the necessary vSphere privileges to inventory disk usage and retrieve storage statistics for snapshots.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, assign the required vSphere privileges to the collection user account utilized by the VMware Aria Operations adapter.

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client with administrative credentials.
  2. Navigate to the global permissions or role definitions configuration.
  3. Locate the user account or role assigned to the VMware Aria Operations collection adapter.
  4. Ensure the user account has, at minimum, the required storage and datastore visibility permissions. Refer to the official product documentation for the complete, up-to-date checklist of required permissions: Privileges Required for Configuring a vCenter Adapter Instance.
  5. Wait for the next adapter collection cycle to complete, then verify that the snapshot data populates correctly within the tenant reports.
