Issue/Introduction

Getting error when trying to create model by IP and getting error SPC-OCC-10268: Error discovering the device.

SPC-OCC-10268: Error discovering the device at XX.XXX.XXX.XX

The device has responded to an ICMP ping request, but not to an SNMP request.

Probable causes for SNMP failure:

*The device may not be responding to SNMP requests.  If the device is busy with network traffic, SNMP requests could be ignored.

*Timeout and Retry values could be too low.  Increase and try again.

*SNMP community string "private" may be incorrect.  SNMP devices will not respond to SNMP requests if the SNMP community string is not valid for the device.

*Agent port number "6844" may be incorrect.  SNMP devices will not respond to SNMP requests if the agent port number is incorrect.

*Check the device for Access Lists.  If the device has an Access List, your machine will have to be added to receive SNMP requests.

Environment

Release: Any version of Spectrum
Component:

Cause

In this example, the root cause of the error is the user entering an incorrect SNMP port number to discover the device.

*Agent port number "6844" may be incorrect.

Resolution

The agent port should be set to the port that the SNMP device is configured for.  By default, this is typically 161.  Port 6844 is the default port that the Secure Domain Manager(SDM) on the SpectroSERVER system and the Secure Domain Connector (SDC) on the SDC system use for communication.
