Issue/Introduction

It is best practice to run the YCVTMDLMSG command when upgrading CA 2E.

This will enable users to see the latest message files associated with their models

When should users execute this command during the upgrade?

For example if a customer is upgrading versions as follows 8.6 > 8.7 > 8.7.4.

Should YCVTMDLMSG be run on all the users models in 8.7, or will executing the command in 8.7.4 be enough?

Environment

All versions of CA 2E

Resolution

We suggest running YCVTMDLMSG during the intermediary version (8.7 in the example above) and final version (8.7.4) to ensure the models are migrating successfully.

In detail we recommend this sequence:

  1. Upgrade to CA 2E 8.7
  2. Execute YCVTMDLMSG
  3. Resolve any conflicts or errors in the newly generated messages
  4. Upgrade to 8.7.4
  5. Execute YCVTMDLMSG
  6. Resolve any conflicts or errors in the newly generated messages

This sequence ensures that the models are migrating successfully in each version.

If the command is only run during the final version it may be difficult to pinpoint the root cause and subsequent resolution of any issues noted in the new messages.
