Issue/Introduction

Attempting to remediate a Desired State Configuration fails, preventing the cluster from reaching a compliant state. The following exact error is displayed: Error: "Apply Plugin 'REMEDIATE: Permissions' failed."

Environment

  • VMware vSphere 8.x
  • VMware vCenter 8.x

Cause

The validation triggers a failure in the permissions plugin if required authorization permissions are missing. Specifically, this error occurs when the root authorization permissions are missing from the Desired State configuration draft.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, the missing root authorization permissions must be added to the configuration draft to satisfy the validation requirements.

  1. In the vCenter UI, select the cluster.

  2. Navigate to the Configure tab.

  3. Go to Desired State > Configuration.

  4. Click Create Draft.

  5. Navigate to esx > authorization > permissions and click Edit.

  6. Add the required root permission details as below.

  7. Apply the changes made to the draft configuration document.

  8. Run a Pre-check, and proceed with Remediate.
