Issue/Introduction

Symptoms

You are able to view a universe and save metric groupings, but when you try to create or save calculators based on those metric groupings, you receive a "metric not found" error. This issue may occur even if you have both read and write Active Directory (AD) groups assigned. User is not able to create/Save alerts and metric groupings

Environment

  • DX SaaS
  • DX APM
  • DX Operational Observability (DX O2)

Cause

The issue typically relates to missing permissions or an incorrect metric specifier/regex in the metric grouping. When the calculator attempts to reference a metric that is not being correctly captured by the defined metric grouping or if the user lacks the specific permissions for that metric path, the system throws a "metric not found" error. User is not able to create/Save alerts and metric groupings

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Verify Permissions: Ensure that your user account has the appropriate permissions for the specific universe and the metric paths you are attempting to use. Even with read/write AD groups, specific access to the metric path is required. User is not able to create/Save alerts and metric groupings
  2. Validate Metric Grouping Regex: Review the metric grouping you are using for the calculator. You must ensure the regex correctly matches the metrics you intend to use. Metrics missing in DX OI metric group search
  3. Compare Working Sessions: If other users with the same access levels are not experiencing the issue, capture a HAR file from a working session and compare the REST calls to your session. Look for differences in the metric availability in the response. User is not able to create/Save alerts and metric groupings
  4. Test with Different Calculators: Attempt to create a calculator using a different metric or metric grouping to determine if the issue is specific to a particular set of data or a broader permission/configuration problem. User is not able to create/Save alerts and metric groupings

Workaround

If you continue to face issues, you can try creating the calculator as a Tenant Admin to confirm if the problem is user-specific. User is not able to create/Save alerts and metric groupings
