Issue/Introduction

  • In VMware Live Site Recovery (VLSR), pings to the Array Manager fails.

  • Upon reviewing the Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) logs, the discoverArray command (which is executed during the ping operation) appears to complete successfully, as shown in the following log entries:

[YYYYMMDDHHMMSS ######  #### Run@Commands.cpp                ] [Commence]: Discovering Arrays
[YYYYMMDDHHMMSS ######  #### Run@Commands.cpp                ] [Complete]: Finished discovering Arrays

Environment

VMware Live Site Recovery using Array-Based Replication (ABR)

Cause

This issue occurs when the discoverArray command execution takes longer than the configured SRA command timeout value (default: 300 seconds). Even if the command eventually completes successfully on the SRA side, VLSR times out the operation and reports a ping failure.

This condition is more likely to occur in larger environments with a high number of storage objects.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, increase the storage.commandTimeout value in the Advanced Settings of VMware Live Site Recovery.

Steps:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.
  2. Navigate to Site Recovery > Open Site Recovery.
  3. Select the site pair and click View Details.
  4. In the left pane, click Configure > Advanced Settings > Storage.
  5. Locate the parameter storage.commandTimeout and increase its value (e.g., from 300 to a higher value).

Note: The optimal timeout value depends on the storage environment. Consult your storage vendor for the recommended value for this parameter.
