Issue/Introduction

  • You cannot locate or download the vSAN File Service OVF files from the Broadcom Support Portal for vSphere 7.x.
  • The download icon for vSphere 7.x binaries is missing or grayed out in your "My Downloads" section.
  • You see a "Not Entitled" message when attempting to access 7.x software, even though you have an active support contract or Extended Technical Guidance.
  • vSAN File Service enablement or redeployment fails because the vCenter Server cannot automatically fetch the required OVF binaries from the portal.

Environment

vSAN 7.0 U3

vSAN File Services (vSAN FS) 7.0 U3

Cause

This issue occurs because vSphere 7.x has reached the End of General Support (EOGS) phase. Once a product version reaches EOGS, the binaries are typically removed from the standard self-service portal view. While you may have Extended Technical Guidance or Extended Support, the Broadcom Support Portal defaults to showing versions that are within their General Support phase (such as vSphere 8.x and higher).

Resolution

To resolve this issue and obtain the necessary files while remaining on vSphere 7.x, follow these steps:

  1. Contact Broadcom Support and reference this article. An engineer will verify your account's Extended Technical Guidance status and provide a temporary, secure download link for the specific vSAN File Service OVF version required for your build.
  2. Check your vsan-health-service.log or the vSAN Skyline Health UI to identify the exact OVF version string (e.g., version ####) needed for your current vCenter Server build.
  3. Once you receive the files, manually upload them to the vCenter Server directory path identified in the logs to allow File Service enablement to proceed as per this tech doc.
  4. To restore native self-service download entitlement and access to the latest supported features, you must upgrade your environment to vSphere 8.x or higher.
