Issue/Introduction

OTP delivery thought SMS fails with error 4E01: Too many SMS requests. Try again in x minute(s)

Cause

The VIP service has throttled the phone number after detecting an excessive number of SMS attempts to that number. 

Resolution

The throttle will expire when the time has elapsed and no further attempts are made while in a throttled state. 

• Determine the source of the repeated SMS attempts. If there is a pattern of suspicious behavior, immediately take evasive action to address the root cause. 
• Instruct end-users to allow ample time (30+ seconds) for the SMS to arrive before trying again. Follow this troubleshooting KB. 
• If using VIP Web APIs for SMS delivery, add a 30-second (or longer) timer for each SMS attempt.
