Issue/Introduction

Applying Patch 4 to VMware Aria Automation via VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle fails. The following error is generated:

Error Code: LCMVRAVACONFIG90030
vRealize Automation virtual appliance upgrade status check failed.
An unexpected status was encountered following the upgrade on the vRealize Automation virtual appliance <Aria Automation FQDN>. For detailed information regarding the failure, please execute the command `vracli upgrade status --details` on the vRealize Automation virtual appliance <Aria Automation FQDN>. If you wish to revert the snapshot and trigger the upgrade again, click [Retry] and set the `revertSnapshotNRetryUpgrade` parameter to `true`. If you wish to cancel the entire upgrade and revert to the pre-upgrade state, click [Retry] and set the `cancelUpgradeNRevertBack` parameter to `true`. If the upgrade issue on vRealize Automation has been manually resolved externally, and you need to move the failed vRSLCM request to a "Completed" status, click [Retry] and set the `succeedUpgradeRequest` parameter to `true`. If multiple retry parameters are set to `true`, only one will be honored. The order of precedence is the `revertSnapshotNRetryUpgrade` parameter, followed by the `cancelUpgradeNRevertBack` parameter, and finally the `succeedUpgradeRequest` parameter.

However, when running the command vracli version patch on the Aria Automation appliance, it indicates that the Patch 4 build 25228700 is successfully installed.

Validate the Build number for Patch 4 from the article: VMware Aria Automation 8.18.1 Cumulative Update #4

Environment

Aria Automation 8.18.1

Cause

Aria Automation services fail to initialize correctly following the patch application, resulting in an unexpected state recognized by Suite Lifecycle.

Resolution

  • Reboot the Aria Automation appliance(s).
  • Alternatively, execute the script /opt/scripts/deploy.sh on any of the Aria Automation nodes to manually trigger service initialization.
  • Verify that all Aria Automation services have started successfully by running the command vracli service status(On any of the Aria Automation Node).
  • Log in to VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle as admin@local.
  • Navigate to Lifecycle Operations > Environments > Aria Automation > VMware Aria Automation Nodes > Select the target node > Click on two Arrows to expand node details

    > Scroll to the bottom to verify that the build for Patch 4 is correctly displayed, confirming the environment state is synchronized.
