Issue/Introduction

After successfully importing Aria Operations for Networks version 6.14.x into VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations 9.0.x, administrators may notice that standard management actions are missing from the user interface. Most notably, the "Trigger Inventory Sync" button is not available.

Environment

  • VCF Operations 9.0.x

Cause

The imported Aria Operations for Networks version (6.14.x) is a legacy version in comparison to VCF Fleet Management 9.0.x. To fully integrate with VCF Operations 9.0.x and unlock native management actions—such as manual inventory synchronization—the imported component must first be upgraded to the VCF 9.0.x architecture.

Resolution

This is an expected behavior. To resolve this issue and expose the missing UI buttons, you must complete the upgrade process for the imported network nodes. Please follow these step-by-step instructions:

1. Take snapshots of VCF Operations and Fleet Management appliance.
2. Start the Upgrade Plan:
  1. Navigate to the Fleet Management section in your VCF Operations UI.

  2. Select Plan Upgrade.

    • Note: Initiating this workflow is explicitly required to unlock the upgrade and sync options for legacy components.

3. Follow the Upgrade Path: Once the plan is successfully started, you will be prompted to trigger the upgrade. Follow the on-screen prompts to proceed with upgrading the Aria Operations for Networks nodes to version 9.0.x.
4. Validate Manual Sync: After the upgrade to version 9.0.x completes successfully, navigate back to your instance details. The "Trigger Inventory Sync" button will now automatically appear in the UI and be available for all future manual synchronizations.
