Issue/Introduction

Policy set to Notify Only on New Violations still displays or includes older resources in the violation list, or you receive an email containing a complete list of violations even though you only expect to see new ones.

Cause

Policy's Affected Resources count reflects all assets currently in violation of the policy's conditions at the time of evaluation.

Setting a policy to Notify Only on New Violations does not filter the resource list to show only new items; instead, it controls the frequency of the notification trigger.

Resolution

Configure the notification frequency for policy email actions to manage how often you receive alerts. By default, the option is set to Always Notify, which means you receive an email with the complete list of violations after every policy run.

If you select Notify Only on New Violations, the system sends an email with the complete list of violations only when it identifies new violations.

To help you distinguish between items, the email content includes an identifier labeled New? with a TRUE/FALSE value for each violation. This allows you to differentiate new violations from existing ones within the full report.
