Issue/Introduction

A vCenter Server upgrade from version 8.0.3.00700 to 8.0.3.00800 encounters warnings during the pre-check phase. The following exact error messages are displayed:

  • "Before upgrading, check the compatibility of 3rd party products that are registered with vCenter server."

  • "VMware Aria Operations for Logs, current version 8.16, Compatible version with 8.0.3.00800 is VMware Aria Operations for Logs version 8.18"

  • "VMware Aria Operations for Networks, current version 6.12.1, Compatible version with 8.0.3.00800 is VMware Aria Operations for Networks version 6.13.0"

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.3.00700
VMware Aria Operations for Logs 8.16
VMware Aria Operations for Networks 6.12.1

Cause

The vSphere environment contains registered versions of Aria Suite components that are incompatible with the target vCenter Server version, violating the mandated vSphere upgrade sequence as per Update Sequence for VMware vSphere 8.0 and Compatible VMware Products

Resolution

RESOLUTION

  1. Abort the current vCenter Server 8.0.3.00800 upgrade process.

  2. Upgrade VMware Aria Operations for Logs from version 8.16 to version 8.18.

  3. Upgrade VMware Aria Operations for Networks from version 6.12.1 to version 6.13.0.

  4. Validate the health, API connectivity, and active data collection of both Aria components against the existing vCenter Server.

  5. Re-initiate the vCenter Server upgrade pre-checks.
