Issue/Introduction

  • While performing an upgrade of an NSX Edge cluster from 3.2.2.x to 4.2.2.2, or when forcing an Edge node failover, the Edge node tunnel between TEPs goes down.

  • The tunnel remains down and fails to recover automatically.

  • The tunnel state can be observed as down after powering off the active Edge node and powering it back on.

  • The connection is only restored when one of the affected Edge node VMs is migrated via vMotion.

Environment

VMware NSX 3.2.2.x

Cause

Cause is currently unknown

Resolution

Two Options:

  1. Finish the NSX upgrade from 3.2.2.x to 4.2.2.x or higher

  2. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, perform a vMotion of the affected Edge node VM to force a port state update and temporarily restore the tunnel
