Issue/Introduction

In the SDDC Manager Dashboard, the Password Management section shows the NSX root password status as Disconnected. Attempts to resolve this using the Remediate option fail with an authentication error.

This article provides the steps to resolve a "Disconnected" password status in SDDC Manager when the standard remediation process fails due to credential mismatches.

Environment

VMware SDDC Manager

VMware NSX

Cause

The Remediate workflow in SDDC Manager expects the input password to match the current password existing on the NSX guest operating system. If the password was changed locally on the NSX appliance or if the input does not match the OS, the remediation will fail.

The following error is logged in /var/log/vmware/vcf/operationsmanager/operationsmanager.log:

"Caused by: com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.InvalidGuestLogin: Failed to authenticate with the guest operating system using the supplied credentials."

Resolution

To synchronize the password when remediation fails, use the Update option to manually update the SDDC Manager database with the correct credentials.

  1. Log in to the SDDC Manager UI.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Administration > Password Management.
  3. Locate the NSX component and the root account.
  4. Click the Update (not Remediate) option.
  5. Provide the NEW valid password for the NSX root account.
  6. Submit the change to sync the SDDC Manager database and dependent workflows.
