Issue/Introduction

When attempting to update vCenter in VAMI you receive an error after mounting ISO into VM from vSphere Client or Local ESX Web console, but redirection fails to present the ISO in the CD/DVD tray of the virtual machine

Environment

vCenter 7.x

vCenter 8.x

Cause

vCenter ISO is not able to be redirected to VM in order to see the ISO via VAMI, in turn you receive the error " The CD driver does not have a valid patch ISO or has an unsupported version " or even while mounting the ISO via appliance shell with

software-package --iso --acceptEulas

Resolution

In the event that mounting the ISO directly from the ESX Web console fails attempt to remove the CD/DVD drive from the VM

1. Power OFF VM in questions

2. Remove CD/DVD drive by editing the VM settings, select Save

3. Add the CD/DVD drive again by adding add New Device CD/DVD, then mount the vCenter Patch ISO.

4. Connect into VAMI and attempt to Check Updates with CD/DVD drive

5. The Patch ISO should now show up and you should be able to stage or stage and install
