Issue/Introduction

In vCenter Server, an ESXi host reports a "Not Compliant" status. The compliance check failure is associated with the following specific error strings:

  • Comparable profile not found: VvolVasaProviderConfigurationProfile

  • Comparable profile not found: VvolStorageContainerConfigurationProfile

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

The Host Profile contains an outdated configuration baseline that references a VASA Storage Provider or Storage Container ID that no longer matches the live configuration on the host.

Resolution

Option 1: Update the Host Profile using a valid reference host

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Navigate to Policies and Profiles > Host Profiles.
  3. Locate the Host Profile assigned to the non-compliant host.
  4. Identify hosts in the same cluster using this Host Profile and verify their storage configuration:
    • Confirm which VASA Storage Provider they are currently registered with.
    • Ensure the provider and associated storage containers are consistent across hosts.
  5. Select a reference host that reflects the current and correct storage configuration.
  6. Right-click the profile and select Copy Settings from Host.
  7. Choose the validated reference host and click OK.
  8. Select the affected host(s) and click Check Compliance.

Option 2: Remove VVol/VASA configuration from the Host Profile

  1. Navigate to Policies and Profiles > Host Profiles and select the profile.
  2. Click Edit Host Profile and expand Storage configuration.
  3. Uncheck:
    • Vvol VASA provider configuration
    • Vvol storage container configuration
  4. Save the profile.
  5. Re-run the Compliance Check on the affected hosts.

This removes the VASA/VVol storage configuration from the Host Profile so it no longer enforces a specific storage provider, allowing hosts to pass compliance regardless of their current registration.
