VM/Host Group not visible when creating a VM/Host Rule

Issue/Introduction

  • The VM/Host Group has been created for the VM
  • creating VM/Host Rule does not list previously created VM/Host Group

Environment

  • VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.X
  • VMware vCenter Server 8.0.X

Cause

  • Incorrect option selected when creating VM/Host Group (in this example the group was selected for the Host instead of a VM)

Resolution

  • Select the cluster from the inventory
  • Select Configure Tab/Configuration/VM/Host Groups/Add
  • Enter the name (in our example this is Test) and under Type select VM Group and add memebers
  • Once the above steps are done create a VM/Host Rule by clicking on Configure Tab/Configuration/VM/Host Rule/Add and you should see the VM Group listed as below (Test in our case)
