Issue/Introduction

DX UIM 23.4 Memory Requirements for Large Environments
(accounting for growth over ~2 years)

Environment

  • DX UIM 23.4 - any version

Cause

  • Consolidated list/reference requested for memory requirements for different types of UIM Hubs

Resolution

Primary hub (core probes)
64GB RAM

HA (failover) Hub
(SAME as Primary)

Tunnel Server
24GB RAM

OC Robot (wasp, min, 10 GB, max 12GB), not a hub but worth listing.
24GB RAM

Secondary hub (General usage)
(distsrv, ppm, CRS (for MCS), discovery_agent)
24GB RAM

Network Device Monitoring Hub
(snmpcollector), 6GB min., 8GB Max.
16GB RAM

Network Monitoring Hub
(ICMP, net_connect)
16GB RAM

Storage Hubs
(netapp, purestorage, etc.)
32GB RAM

Integration Hubs
DXO2 (oi_connector, apm_bridge), 10GB min., 12GB Max, 4 GB min., 6GB Max respectively.
32GB RAM

Application Hubs (depends on environment)
(vmware)
16GB RAM

Additional Information

  • Java min/max starting point for probes listed above: 2048/4096 MB

  • No need to ever set java probes min and max below 1024/2048 Max

  • Set java min/max so the difference between the min and max is no more than 2 GB (helps minimize GC)
  • On Windows use Task Manager and on Linux/Unix use top to check how much physical memory the given probe is using on the system.

    • Always add some breathing room, e.g., 2GB increase in memory above the observed baseline
