Issue/Introduction

When attempting to import a Local Manager into a Global Manager in NSX Federation, the import task fails.

The following error message is displayed:

Unable to import due to these unsupported features: MultiTenancy

Entity TRANSIT_GATEWAY_ATTACHMENT at site ####_LM is not supported for configuration import on GM. Please delete entity TRANSIT_GATEWAY_ATTACHMENT from the site ####_LM and try again.

Environment

  • VMware NSX 9.x
  • NSX Federation

Cause

Features related to Multi-Tenancy (which generally includes Tier-0 VRFs and VPCs) are currently unsupported during the Local Manager to Global Manager configuration import process. The presence of the TRANSIT_GATEWAY_ATTACHMENT entity blocks the import.

Resolution

To resolve this issue and clear the block to successfully import the Local Manager, perform the following steps:

  1. Detach/delete the external gateway connection within the Global Manager.

  • Detached the Transit Gateway: Log in to the Global Manager and navigated to Networking > Transit Gateways. After confirming it was not in use, detach the TRANSIT_GATEWAY_ATTACHMENT entity on the Local Manager as specified by the error prompt.

  • Deleted the External Connection: Navigate to Networking > External Connections within the GM and delete the external connection attached to the default transit gateway.

Once these unsupported entities and connections are removed, the error will clear and the Global Manager will successfully allow the import of the Local Manager.
