vVOLs Error while Taking snapshot error with Task already in progress

Issue/Introduction

• Snapshots failed because of existing tasks.
  
  
• Logged Snapshot errors: vmware.log (/vmfs/volumes/datastore/virtualmachine/)

YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.000Z Er(02) vcpu-0 - DISKLIB-LINK  : DiskLinkNativeSnap: Attempting to take a snapshot of 'vvol://#####' which is already a snapshot of 'vvol://#####'.

YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.000Z Er(02) vcpu-0 - DISKLIB-LIB_CREATE   :DiskLibPrepareOrCreateChildNativeSnap: Failed to do native snapshot: One of the parameters supplied is invalid

• vVOLs Certs recently renewed.

 

 

Environment

ESX 8.x

vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

vVOLs datastore issues resulting in stale snapshot tasks.

Resolution

• vVOLS and VASA providers must be properly working.
  
  
• Resolve the certificate issue for vVols after vCenter changes or CA certificate changes.
  
  
• Use the esxcli storage vvol commands to troubleshoot your Virtual Volumes environment.
  
  
• Contact Vendor Support for additional assistance resolving vVOLs issues.
  
  
• On resolving the vVOLs issues, Collecting information about tasks in VMware ESXi and cancel stale snapshot task(s).
  
  
• Reboot hosts to clear any vVOLs file locks.

 

Additional Information

• Virtual Machine snapshot running on vVOL storage fails with a generic error message " One of the parameters supplied is invalid".
