Issue/Introduction

  • Attempting to add an unassigned ESXi host to a cluster from vCenter Server in a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environment fails. The following error is displayed in the vCenter Server UI:

Add Host is disabled. This operation is not allowed because Credentials remediate operation operation(s) are working on related resources.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0

Cause

As per the error message, the host addition task is blocked by vCenter because one or more failed password remediation tasks for infrastructure component user accounts (e.g., vCenter root account, NSX admin account) are holding a lock on the affected cluster.

Resolution

  1. Review the failed password remediation tasks by logging into the SDDC Manager UI > Password Management page:

  2. Cancel them from the UI to release the lock(s) and retry the host addition operation in vCenter Server.
