Issue/Introduction

  • VMware Aria Operations for Logs reports a "Pending Archives" alert on a cluster node.
  • The system identifies pending log buckets that cannot be moved to the archive destination.
  • The local /storage/core partition reaches or exceeds 97% utilization.
  • "Pending Archives" count is exactly 2 (or greater than 0) when 0 are expected.

Environment

Aria Operations for Logs 8.18x

Cause

The cluster is in an unsupported configuration where individual nodes have mismatched disk sizes. Aria Operations for Logs requires all cluster nodes to have uniform storage capacity. If one node is smaller, the archival workflow fails to retire log buckets, causing the /storage/core partition to reach its 97% threshold.

Resolution

  1. Identify the node with the largest disk capacity in the cluster.
  2. Increase the virtual disk size on all undersized nodes to match the largest node's capacity.
  3. Verify that the /storage/core partition size is now uniform across all nodes.
  4. Verify connectivity and available space on the NFS archive server (ensure the destination is not 100% full).
  5. Monitor the nodes to ensure the "Pending Archives" count returns to 0. Reason: Sequential steps must be formatted as a markdown numbered list. Including the NFS space check from Case [36870114] ensures the user addresses both potential failure points identified during troubleshooting.
