Issue/Introduction

  • During the process of importing a vCenter 9.0 or workload domain into VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x, the deployment fails with an error during the configuration of VLAN-backed transport node collections.

  • The following error is generated:

  • To confirm if vSphere Configuration Profiles are enabled on the affected cluster:
    1. In the vSphere Client, navigate to the Cluster.
    2. Go to Configure > Desired State > Configuration.
    3. If active configuration details are displayed instead of a "Create Configuration" tab, the feature is enabled.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x
vCenter 9.x

Cause

NSX only supports vLCM clusters with "Manage all hosts in the cluster with a single image" enabled.

It does not support vLCM clusters with "Manage configuration at a cluster level" (vSphere Configuration Profiles) enabled at this time. This limitation prevents the integrated lifecycle handoff for configuration management during the brownfield import process.

Resolution

  1. Create a new cluster in vCenter.
  2. Enable vLCM Image Management, but do not check the box for "Manage configuration at a cluster level".
  3. Place ESXi host from the original cluster into Maintenance Mode and migrate it to the newly created cluster.
  4. Once the hosts are active in the new cluster, retry the Brownfield Import process in VCF Operations.
