Issue/Introduction

When attempting to perform a "Save As" operation to a TDM Repository with large flows (specifically those using customer data flows), ARD Desktop displays an error pop-up message: Operation timed out or Fault code 4: Operation timed out.

Environment

Product: Agile Requirements Designer (ARD) 

Version: 3.6.0.51 and above

Cause

The error indicates that the ARD Desktop client is timing out while waiting for the TDM service to process and save the large model. By default, the connection timeout is set to 60 seconds, which may be insufficient for complex or high-volume data flows.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, increase the TDM connection timeout value within the ARD Desktop settings:

  1. Open ARD Desktop.
  2. Navigate to Settings (represented by the gear icon).
  3. Go to the Standard Settings tab.
  4. Locate and expand the Connection timeout settings section.
  5. Change the TDM connection timeout value from 60 seconds to 600 seconds.
  6. Click OK to save the settings.
  7. Retry the "Save As" operation to the TDM Repository.
