Issue/Introduction

When accessing the vCenter Server Licensing section via the vSphere Client (Menu > Administration > Licenses), the following warning message appears on a license key:
"The license is not assigned. To comply with the EULA, assign the license to at least one asset."

Cause

  • This message appears when a license key has been successfully added to the vCenter Server's license inventory, but it has not been mapped or assigned to any actual infrastructure asset (such as an ESXi host or a vCenter Server).
  • vCenter Server flags unassigned licenses to ensure compliance with the End User License Agreement (EULA) and to help administrators manage their license inventory efficiently.

Resolution

Note:
This issue has no operational impact on the vCenter Server or any of its managed assets.
