Issue/Introduction

HCX Disaster Recovery "Reverse Recovery" operations fail when attempting to migrate a virtual machine back on-premises (e.g., from GCVE to on-premises) using delta syncs.

  • Below is CURL result from SOURCE IX TO SOURCE ESX host Replication interface:
  • From HCX IX appliance HBRSRV.log the below is seen:

Environment

VMware HCX

Cause

Network connectivity is blocked from the Source HCX Interconnect Appliance (IX) to the destination ESXi host on TCP port 902.

Port 902 is required for HCX Reverse Recovery operations, and network tests (e.g., NMAP and CURL) indicate a connectivity failure.

 

 

Resolution

 

  1. Verify the firewall rules and network routing between the Source HCX Interconnect Appliance (IX) and the target ESXi hosts.

  2. Enable and allow bidirectional TCP port 902 traffic between the Source IX appliance and the ESXi hosts.

  3. Validate connectivity using CURL or NMAP from the IX appliance to the ESXi host over port 902.

  4. Retry the HCX Disaster Recovery Reverse Recovery operation.
