Issue/Introduction

When SMG boot up after the upgrade it stuck with the error:

error: file '/vmlinuz-3.10.0-1160.36.2.e17.x86_64' not found

error: you need to load the kernel first.

Environment

SMG 10.9

Cause

A common cause of this failure is an insufficient /boot partition size. If the partition is too small, the upgrade process may fail while updating the kernel and boot components.

Resolution

Please refer to the following article for details: SMG upgrade fails due to insufficient / boot partition size
If the /boot partition is indeed too small, the recommended solution is to reinstall SMG so that the partitions are recreated with the correct sizing.

This is outlined in:  "Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs... " after upgrade of Messaging Gateway
