Issue/Introduction

  • When performing VM upgrade \ deployment, the operation fails to correctly set the IP mode for specific networks despite VMware Cloud Director (VCD) returning a success response for the task.
  • Specifically, the network interface (NIC) remains configured as "static-IP pool" rather than the intended "static-manual." This issue is predominantly observed on specific network segments while other networks in the same environment update correctly.

Environment

10.3.3

Cause

For a vapp direct network, if the vm nic is modified to change pool type from POOL to MANUAL, while keeping the same ip address, the modifications are not saved. This behavior was changed in later versions.(Please check Resolution)

Resolution

The fix for this issue is included in newer releases of VMware Cloud Director.

  1. Review the VMware Cloud Director Release Notes for versions 10.4 or later to confirm the resolution of this specific API behavior.

  2. For impacted network , manually update the IP mode to "static-manual" within the VCD Tenant Portal as a temporary workaround until the upgrade is complete.
