Issue/Introduction

Receiving error: Virtual machine creation might fail because the agent was unable to retrieve virtual machine creation options from the host

nc -z  [host IP] 514 connects successfully, but logs report admission failure. 

Errors found in host log directory /var/run/log/vmsyslogd-dropped.log:

Cause

Networking issues causing host connection issues

Resolution

Check working hosts syslog IP address in the vSphere UI advanced settings. Even minor differences such as using UDP vs TCP can cause these connection issues.
