Issue/Introduction

  •  Discovery fails within the environment during the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations discovery process. The process returns error code LCMVROPSYSTEM25050, indicating an authentication failure for the VCF Operations component.
  • The failure is validated through the following error message generated during the discovery attempt: Error Code: LCMVROPSYSTEM25050 Operations Root password is invalid for the given address. SSH authorization failed with provided root password for ####. Verify the credentials and retry. Error Code: LCMVROPSYSTEM25050

Environment

  • VCF Operations 9.x
  • VCF 9.x

Cause

  • The root password for the VCF Operations appliance is out of sync between the Fleet management component locker
  • SSH authorization failure for the address #.#.#.#. The system is unable to authenticate because the password provided in the discovery task does not match the actual operating system password

Resolution

To resolve the discovery failure, follow these steps to reset the root account and synchronize credentials:

  1. Put the VCF Operations cluster offline via the admin interface.
  2. Shut down the VCF Ops VM.
  3. Boot the virtual machine to GRUB edit mode (press 'e') and reset the root account by appending rw init=/bin/bash to the boot line and using the passwd command.
  4. From the admin page, bring the cluster online and Toggle SSH to ensure access.
  5. Test the connection to VCF Operations using the new root user credentials via SSH.
  6. In Fleet Management, locate the failed workflow and click Retry.
  7. Create a new credential entry with the updated password and select it for the task.
  8. Perform an inventory sync to complete the process
