"UNDEFINED VARIABLE" During Upgrade Automation preflight in DX NetOps

Issue/Introduction

 "UNDEFINED VARIABLE" error when running the upgrade automation preflight script.

ERROR MESSAGE: "ERROR! an undefined variable was found when attempting to template the vars_files item '{{ runtime_vars_file }}'"

 

SYMPTOMS:

• The script preflight-all-remote․sh fails

• Playbook encounters a fatal error on common pre-tasks

 

Environment

All Supported Releases

Cause

This issue typically occurs when carrying forward an older variables.yml file that is missing new entries required by the latest release ․​​​‌​‍

 

Resolution

It is recommend to bring settings from the older files to the new files to make sure any new entries are retained.

There are sometimes changes beyond user configurable entries.
