Issue/Introduction

  • When creating a new Tanzu Kubernetes Cluster in the VMware Cloud Director UI the "vSphere with Tanzu & Native" tab is not available.
  • The provider VDC backed by a Supervisor Cluster has been correctly created.
  • The Provider VDCs backed by a Supervisor Cluster appear with a Kubernetes icon next to their name in the grid that lists all provider VDCs.
  • The default provider VDC Kubernetes policy for provider VDCs backed by a Supervisor Cluster has been automatically created and share with the Organization VDC.
  • The Kubernetes Container Clusters plug-in has been published to service providers.
  • The vmware:tkgcluster Entitlement rights bundle to the organizations that are allowed to work with Tanzu Kubernetes clusters.
  • "Edit: Tanzu Kubernetes Guest Cluster" right or "Full Control: Tanzu Kubernetes Guest Cluster" right has been assigned to the roles that is allowed to create Tanzu Kubernetes clusters.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

VMware vCenter Server 8.0 U3 and newer.

Kubernetes Container Clusters UI plug-in 4.2.4 and older.

Cause

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.0 does not support vCenter 8.0 U3 when using Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service (TKGS) / vSphere with Tanzu.

This limitation is documented in the VMware Cloud Director 10.6 Release Notes.

Resolution

Deploy Kubernetes clusters using VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension (CSE) with Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKGm).

This is the supported integration path with VCD 10.6 and ensures compatibility with vCenter 8.0 U3 and newer versions.
