Issue/Introduction

  • In VMware Aria Operations for Networks (formerly vRealize Network Insight), you may find that the option to Add Platform Node is greyed out or disabled. This typically occurs in VCF 9.x or standalone environments when attempting to transition from a single-node deployment to a cluster.

Environment

  • Product: VMware Aria Operations for Networks / vRealize Network Insight

  • Version: 6.x, VCF 9.0.1

  • Deployment Profile: Medium

Cause

  • A multi-node cluster deployment for the Platform requires a minimum brick size of Large. If the initial node was deployed with a Medium profile (10 vCPU / 32 GB RAM), the clustering features are restricted until the node meets the minimum resource requirements for a cluster member.

Resolution

To enable clustering, you must scale the existing platform node from Medium to Large:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.

  2. Locate the vRNI Platform VM and select Power > Shut Down Guest OS.

  3. Right-click the VM and select Edit Settings.

  4. Increase the resources to match the Large brick size:

    • vCPU: 15

    • Memory: 48 GB

  5. Important: Ensure CPU and Memory Reservations are set to 100% of the new values.

  6. Power on the VM.

  7. After the services start, the Add Platform Node option will be enabled in the product UI.

  8. Retry the workflow to add the new Platform Node on VCF Fleet Manager.
