DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • When creating a new user in Infrastructure Manager, the user appears in the list initially.
  • After closing and reopening Infrastructure Manager, the user details (except the name) or Access Control List (ACL) assignments are blank.
  • The newly created user receives an "incorrect username/password" error when attempting to log in.
  • Options like "Manage Access Control List" or "User Administration" may appear greyed out or fail to commit changes.

Environment

  • DX Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM) 20.4.x.
  • Infrastructure Manager (IM) version is older than the Primary Hub version.

Cause

Root Cause: This issue is caused by a version mismatch between the Infrastructure Manager client and the DX UIM environment. Starting with DX UIM 20.4, security enhancements were introduced that use encrypted internal callbacks. Older versions of IM are unable to process these encrypted requests, resulting in a failure to save security configuration changes to the security.cfg file.

Resolution

Resolution: Upgrade the Infrastructure Manager (IM) client to match the version of your DX UIM environment:

  1. Navigate to the uimhome page on your primary hub: http://<primary_hub_ip_or_hostname>/uimhome.
  2. Click on the Installers link.
  3. Download the Infrastructure Manager (IM) installer (NimBUS Manager.exe). Note: This page always contains the correct version for your specific DX UIM environment.
  4. Right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade.
  6. To verify, open IM and go to Help > About Infrastructure Manager to ensure the version matches your UIM server version.
  7. After the upgrade, recreate the user or re-assign the ACLs to ensure the data is saved correctly.
