Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to VCF 9.x or VCF Operations 9.x, users may encounter the following issues when configuring Fleet Management > Configuration Drifts:

  • When attempting to create a configuration template, no vCenter Servers appear in the Configuration Source drop-down list.
  • Desired state configurations created in the vCenter UI report as Unavailable in the VCF Operations dashboard.
  • The Home page Configuration Drift tile shows objects as "Unavailable" or "Not Collecting."

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0.x
  • VMware VCF Operations 9.0.x

Cause

In VCF 9.x, the Configuration Drift feature requires that the associated vCenter adapter be registered to a Cloud Proxy or a Cloud Proxy Collector Group. If the vCenter adapter is assigned to the default "Default Collector Group" (which typically points to the analytics nodes), the Configuration Management adapter cannot discover the vCenter instances or retrieve drift data.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, assign the vCenter adapters to a Cloud Proxy:

  1. Deploy Cloud Proxy: Ensure at least one Cloud Proxy is deployed and healthy within the VCF Operations cluster.
  2. Edit Adapter Configuration:
    1. Navigate to Administration > Integrations.
    2. Locate the vCenter adapter instance.
    3. Click the three vertical dots and select Edit.
  3. Update Collector Group:
    1. In the Collector / Group dropdown menu, change the selection from the default group to a specific Cloud Proxy or a Cloud Proxy Group.
  4. Validate and Save:
    1. Click Validate Connection to ensure connectivity.
    2. Click Save.
  5. Refresh Fleet Management:
    1. Navigate back to Fleet Management > Configuration Drifts.
    2. The vCenter Servers should now be visible in the Configuration Source list.
Note: It may take several minutes for data collection to initialize and for the status to change from "Unavailable" to "Not Drifted" or "Drifted." Troubleshooting VCF Configuration Drifts
