When attempting to map a VMware Live Recovery (VLR) placeholder to a Recovery Site within the vCenter inventory, the operation fails even though the target folder is visible.
The following error is observed in the UI:
VM's Protection status in the protection group ' Mapping missing: Folder xxxx'
Operation Failed - A specified parameter was not correct: Privilege request with a null objectProduct: VMware Live Recovery (VLR) / Site Recovery Manager (SRM)
Component: vCenter Server Inventory
This issue occurs due to a communication failure or synchronization delay between the configuration wizard and the vCenter inventory. The "null object" indicates that the Site Pair mapping service has not correctly recognized the inventory objects, requiring a manual refresh to align the services with the current vCenter state.
To resolve this issue, you must force a re-authentication and synchronize the inventory by following these steps:
Reconfigure SRM: Log in to the VAMI page of the Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and perform a RECONFIGURE to force a re-login to vCenter.
Refresh Inventory: Navigate to the Site Pair in the user interface and manually perform a Refresh Inventory for both the local and remote sites.
Verify Host Access: Ensure that the DR site hosts have active access to the designated placeholder datastore.
Validate Mappings: Confirm that the Virtual Machines (VMs) intended for protection have valid resource and folder mappings configured.
