Issue/Introduction

  • The IP address has been unassigned, and a new IP address has been assigned on the Guest OS.
  • In the NSX Manager UI, navigating to [Networking] > [Segments] > [Target segment] > [Ports / interfaces] > [Target port] > [ADDRESS BINDING] > [Discovered Bindings] shows that the old IP address binding information detected via VMware Tools still remains. The new IP address binding information is correctly registered via ARP Snooping or DHCP Snooping.

  • It can be confirmed via the vSphere Client that VMware Tools is not running on the target virtual machine.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

VMware Tools was running when the old IP address was assigned, which allowed the IP binding to be detected. However, if VMware Tools is not running at the time the IP address is unassigned, the old IP binding information will not be deleted.

Resolution

Start VMware Tools on the target virtual machine. Once it is running, the old IP binding information derived from VMware Tools will be removed. If a new IP address has been assigned, the new IP address binding information will be registered.
