Issue/Introduction

When you attempt to perform an inventory sync on VCF Operations for Logs, the Fleet Management Task fails. You observe the following error code in the user interface or task logs:

LCMVRLICONFIG40090:  SSH authorization failed with provide root password

Environment

VCF Operations 9.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the root password stored in VCF Operations does not match the actual root password on the appliances. This typically happens if the root password was manually modified directly on the appliances instead of through the management interface.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must remediate the password within the VCF Operations console to synchronize it with the manual changes made on the appliance:

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations console.
  2. Navigate to Fleet Management > Passwords.
  3. Click VCF Management (or select VCF Instances and click the specific VCF Instance or VCF domain name).
  4. Select the affected component from the list.
  5. Click Remediate Password.
  6. Enter and confirm the current password that was set manually on the appliance.
  7. Click Remediate Password to save the changes.
  8. Navigate back to Lifecycle > Tasks and retry the failed task.
