Issue/Introduction

  • Guidance is required for adding VMware AVI Advanced Load Balancer (also known as NSX Advanced Load Balancer) as a data source within VCF Operations for Networks.

  • Administrators require prerequisite validation and configuration steps to ensure successful integration and avoid API authentication failures.

Environment

Cause

The integration requires the following to function successfully as a data source:

  1. specific version compatibility

  2. Enabled Basic Authentication

  3. local administrator credentials 

Resolution

To ensure a successful integration, complete the following configuration steps:

  1. Check Version Compatibility: Verify that the current NSX Advanced Load Balancer version is supported by the VCF Operations for Networks version using the Product Interoperability Matrix. (For example, for Aria version 6.14.x, the last supported AVI version is currently 30.2.2). (Example:  Interoperability Result Based on VCF Operations for Networks 6.14.1

  2. Enable Basic Authentication: Log in to the AVI Load Balancer UI.

  3. Navigate to Administration > System Settings > Access.

  4. Change Basic Authentication to Allowed. This is disabled by default but is mandatory for the integration to function.

  5. Configure Local Account Credentials: When configuring the data source in Aria Operations for Networks, use a local administrator account from the NSX Advanced Load Balancer. Avoid using remote LDAP configurations to prevent potential API authentication issues.
