Could not download the release manifest error occurring when using an ISO to upgrade VMware Cloud Director Availability

Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to update VMware Cloud Director Availability (VCDA) using an ISO, an error similar to the following is encountered:

    Could not download the release manifest from file:///mnt/cdrom/update/rel-manifest.json

  • The ISO is attached as a CD/DVD Drive to the VCDA appliance being updated and is connected.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7.x

Cause

As discussed in the following documentation, if the ISO is not mounted in the guest operating system after it is attached to the VM as a CD/DVD Drive, this error will occur since the files connect be accessed:

Upgrade by using an ISO image file

Resolution

Mount the CD/DVD Drive in the guest operating system using the following steps, as documented in Upgrade by using an ISO image file:

  1. Connect to the VCDA appliance console either by SSH or by a console connection in the vSphere client.
  2. Run the following command to mount the drive:

    mount /mnt/cdrom
